The development of startups, the promotion of international start-up ecosystems and the coordination and management of EU start-up programmes – all these are key topics of the etventure Startup Hub. One example is the EU programme Startup Lighthouse, which aims to link European markets and facilitate start-ups’ leap towards internationalisation. Traditionally, you find the bustling startup scene in Berlin, London or Silicon Valley. However, other European cities are now also developing into startup hotspots. First and foremost: Lisbon. If you want to see for yourself – Analytics and Data Startups can still apply for the Deep Dive Week of Startup Lighthouse in Lisbon from 16 to 18 October until 24 August.
Bem vindo a Lisbon
Awarded as the “European Entrepreneurial Region” by the EU in 2015, Lisbon’s startup scene is booming! After the economic crisis, various investors recognized the potential of the Portuguese capital and pushed the local startup ecosystem to become a key driver for growth. The government has also set up a €200m venture capital fund and significantly simplified the bureaucratic processes for setting up a company.
The thriving startup community also attracts global key players. Since 2016, Lisbon is home to Web Summit – one of the world’s largest technology conferences. Thanks to the strong infrastructure, co-working spaces and accelerators are popping up all over the city. This year, a 35,000 square meters old factory is transformed in the campus of Criativo do Beato hub, becoming Europe’s largest co-working area.
The sunny city on the Atlantic coast also scores well on access to talent: With the Instituto Superior Técnico and many other high-ranking universities, Lisbon attracts tech talents on the highest level. No need to say that many startups and corporates are already taking the opportunity to enter the Portuguese market.
Are you also ready to take your Data / Analytics startup to the next level?
